Vertical blinds – how to clean them?

We have number of windows with vertical blinds, the type on tracks that you pull a cord to close them. How on earth do you clean them? They are made of a heavy duty fabric and don’t seem to come away from the tracks – we can get them off the attachment at the top of the window but they are still attached to another “track” so unable to send to dry cleaner for example. Is there some sort of product I can try when they are in situ or I can put in the bath?
